The North Fork of the Feather River provides the main transportation corridor across the far northern Sierra. Despite damage by mining, recurrent floods, and both road and railroad construction, it remains a highly scenic route. The Western Pacific Railroad's California Zephyr service from Chicago to Oakland featured the Feather River Route.
