Emerald Bay, with rocky Fanette Island and Lake Tahoe beyond, is one of the iconic images of California. It is completely protected within Tahoe National Forest and Emerald Bay State Park.
Vikingsholm was built as a private residence in 1929 and acquired by the state parks department in 1953. It is modeled on Scandinavian churches and castles, and includes a stone tea house on the island.
