Coastal Drive starts from Highway 101 at the south end of the Klamath River Bridge. It passes the remnant south end of the old bridge, swept away in the flood of 1964, then climbs above the mouth of the river.
Heading south along the bluffs the road passes above a cluster of what look like small ranch buildings - but are actually a disguised WW II radar station. High Bluff offers a great view up and down the coast. The road joins the Newton Drury Parkway at its south end.
