Yellow Lupines on Tomales Point Point Reyes National Seashore, Marin County, California |
Many species of lupine grow in California, ranging from below sea level in Death Valley, to above timberline in the High Sierra. Most species have blue or purple flowers, but there are also shades of pink and yellow. A large bush species with yellow flowers is locally common along the northern California coast. Perhaps the best place to see the yellow lupine is at Tomales Point, the northernmost extension of the Point Reyes peninsula. This is also a prime wildlife viewing area, with a herd of reintroduced Tule Elk, deer, fox, coyotes, and many seabirds. - |
