The Lakes Trail enters the Philip Burton Wilderness from the south. It loops through a cluster of lakes that have been created by massive slippage along fault planes parallel to the coast.

A good dayhike destination on this route would be Alamere Falls, which cascades down the coastal cliff onto Wildcat Beach. Or you could get a permit, pack a backpack, and spend the night at Wildcat Camp.
