The high-rise buildings of Stateline look very out of place on the shores of Lake Tahoe. But as with every other place where a major highway crosses the Nevada boundary, there is a demand for hotels and casinos and Vegas-style nightlife. The best thing about Stateline is that it is very compact, and Tahoe's forests and lakeshore are well protected north of here - better protected, in fact, than in over-developed South Tahoe on the California side.
