George's Gap in the Richardson Mountains is on the boundary between the Yukon and the Northwest Territories. It is also on the continental divide: between the Porcupine River, which flows southwest to the Yukon River, and eventually to the Pacific Ocean; and the Peel River, which joins the Mackenzie and flows to the Arctic Ocean. It was bitterly cold when I made this panorama. The temperature was a little below freezing (June 21st!) and the wind was blowing a gale. Since this was to be our night to see the midnight sun on the solstice in Inuvik, we were worried about the low dark clouds. But with the unpredictability for which Arctic weather is famous, the clouds pulled back as we drove north, and we had a fine clear evening and bright sunshine all night.
