As the Mackenzie River approaches the Arctic Ocean it spreads out into a maze of distributary channels. Dotted between them are hundreds of small lakes. This is rich wildlife habitat — every lake and pond has a few waterfowl on it. This is also the richest muskrat trapping area in Canada.
