Joshua trees and gray pines growing adjacent to each other near Canebreak. Those species are distinctive elements of two geographically separated vegetation types - gray pines in the Sierra foothills, and Joshua trees at higher elevations in the deserts.

At the summit of Walker Pass, elevation 5250 feet (1600 meters). Named for Joseph Reddeford Walker who crossed the Sierra divide here in 1834.
