Virtual Guidebook to the San Joaquin Valley
Tulare County
San Joaquin Valley California

Tulare County is primarily agricultural, utilising water from the Kaeah and Tule Rivers to irrigate the former bed of Tulare Lake. The county spreads east to the crest of the Sierra Nevada, including Sequoia National Park and Mount Whitney, the highest point in the 48 United States.

Visalia and Porterville, the main towns, are more likely than other San Joquin cities to have a clear view of snow-capped mountains to the east. The peaks are on the Great Western Divide, closer to the valley than the Sierra Crest, and the towns, unlike most others in the valley, are located east of Highway 99.
