Another long building continues the line of the mission. La Purisima is unusual in being laid out in one line, rather than folded around an inner courtyard.
This second building, known as the Residence, housed the friars and soldiers assigned to the mission. The padres had a chapel for their exclusive use and there was a spare room for visitors. Other rooms held kitchens, workshops, and storage areas.
