Anderson's Pea Soup Restaurant made itself a landmark in the 1950's by posting signs all along Highway 101 reading "Only 112 miles to Andersons' Pea Soup", then "Only 108 miles to Anderson's Pea Soup", and so on, south from San Francisco and north from Los Angeles. The signs featured "Hap-pea"and Sweet-pea" splitting a pea with a sledge hammer and chisel.

The signs are now mostly gone, but the restaurant in Buellton endures, along with a cluster of motels and travel-oriented businesses.
