Beaches on the Big Sur coast tend to be small and rocky, with dangerous heavy surf. Below Kirk Creek Campground is a typical example. The south end of this beach is sandy, in the summer at least, but the north end is a jumble of jagged rocks. It all depends on what you want from a beach. Personally, I enjoy the complexity of a beach broken up by rocky outcrops, the dramatic crashing of the waves, and the teeming life of the intertidal zone among the rocks. Next: Cut-off Curve |
