The Works of Tony Hillerman

Tony Hillerman (1923- ) grew up with the Potowatomie Indians in Sacred Heart, Oklahoma, where his father was a farmer. He began his career as a journalist in Texas and Oklahoma, eventually returning to college and becoming a professor of journalism at the University of New Mexico.

Hillerman is best known for his series of 15 murder mysteries set on the vast Navajo Indian reservation. They star two Navajo tribal policemen: Joe Leaphorn, the legendary older detective, and Jim Chee, the impetuous younger lieutenant. The novels are listed below in order of publication.
