RCMP stands for Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the famous "mounties" who always got their man. They got their sterling reputation in the wild and woolly days of the Klondike gold rush, and it sounds like they still deserve it. Though they are the national police of Canada, with modern crime fighting science like the FBI, they also still patrol the remote corners of the country. Telegraph Creek may not be their loneliest post these days, but it is still one of the most remote and historic. The residential part of the town can be seen on several terraces carved out of the steep canyon wall. On the very top is an extensive flat, with the modern school, and the Tahltan native community, sort of a suburb of the tiny town. Next: Upper Terrace |
