The Top of the Lava Peninsula Between the Stikine and Tahltan Rivers
East of Telegraph Creek, British Columbia, Canada

 -

The road from the junction of the Stikine and Tahltan Rivers climbs very steeply out of the canyon onto a long flat-topped peninsula of lava between the two river canyons. It is possible to scramble out over the rough surface of the lava (of the type known by its Hawaiian name of a'a) to a stunning viewpoint. The waters of the two rivers are different colors, reflecting differences in the geology of their drainage basins. There is a small settlement directly below, where smoked salmon can be purchased, just yards from where it is caught.

Ms Kalamaras is ducking under the tripod, so as not to appear in her own panorama — she couldn't step around the far side without falling off the cliff. I chose a safer, though perhaps less dramatic, spot to take mine.
