Glenora was the head of navigation for steamboats on the Stikine River. They came up from the Inside Passage at Wrangell — there was even talk of starting a railroad to the Klondike from here. Like so many towns in the far north, it had a large population, perhaps 10,000 people, briefly during the gold rush, but has now dropped pretty close to zero again. We camped at the end of the road in a lovely meadow, with fish drying racks all around. In July and August, when the salmon run, it is probably a pretty lively place, but in June we had it all to ourselves.
