Manifold Chamber Number One
W.A.C. Bennett Dam, near Hudson's Hope, British Columbia, Canada

The last stop on the powerhouse tour is the only one where anything moves. There are two manifold chambers, where water from half the turbines, stripped of most of its energy, comes swirling out of four tunnels and combines into one, then exits the mountain down a long tunnel, back to the natural river bed. The sound the water makes is not loud, but powerful, and the air is damp and cold. Everyone is anxious to move back to the upper world of sun and warmth.
