The old White Pass and Yukon Route Railway depot has been restored as headquarters for the National Park Service, housing a museum about the railroad and the gold rush in general. It also continues in its original function as a train station, for rail excursions that run up and over White Pass. Many of the buildings in town actually belong to the park service, but are leased to businesses and individuals. It is a great system, that keeps the town lively but also preserves its authenticity.

Classic yellow "station wagons" still carry travelers around the town. Built by the White Motor Company in the 1930's they are the same as the "red buses" at Glacier National Park in Montana.
